Strategy Raises $2 Billion via MSTR Sales, Maintains Bitcoin Holdings Unchanged
Stock Sales Generate Significant Proceeds
Strategy sold 18.26 million MSTR common shares between August 17 and 23 under its at-the-market offering program. The financing round generated substantial proceeds. Of this amount, approximately $136.4 million was used to repurchase about 1.43 million STRC preferred shares. Another $300 million was directed to the existing U. S. dollar reserve. The remainder, roughly $1.59 billion, was moved into a newly created cash account.
Breaking news:
Cash Position Increases Substantially
Following these financial moves, the U. S. dollar reserve reached $5.1 billion. The new cash account totaled $1.59 billion. Combined, the total available cash position is $6.69 billion. This structure provides management with significant flexibility in capital allocation. Potential uses include additional Bitcoin purchases, dividend payments on preferred shares, debt repayments, or other share repurchases. No fixed purpose or implementation timeline has been assigned.
Ongoing Cash Accumulation Program
This round is part of a broader cash accumulation initiative that accelerated in June. As reported by Crypto.news in July, Strategy already held a $3.75 billion U. S. dollar reserve on July 26 after adding $525 million in one week. During that period, the company generated $544.5 million from selling approximately 5.43 million MSTR shares. It allocated $25 million to repurchase STRC preferred shares without altering its Bitcoin holdings.
Recent Weekly Activity
In the week of August 10 to 16, Strategy raised $333.7 million from selling about 3.46 million MSTR shares. Of that sum, $149.1 million strengthened the U. S. dollar reserve. Another $132.2 million funded STRC preferred share repurchases. The remaining $52.4 million went toward STRC dividend payments. After these transactions, the U. S. dollar reserve stood at approximately $4.8 billion before the latest $300 million increase brought it to $5.1 billion.
No Bitcoin Transactions During Period
Despite raising nearly $2 billion in recent days, Strategy executed no Bitcoin purchases or sales between August 17 and 23, as explicitly stated in the SEC filing. Consequently, its Bitcoin holdings remain unchanged at 840,447 BTC. The accumulated value at purchase is approximately $63.36 billion at an average acquisition price.
Strategic Flexibility Emphasized
Without specifying allocation plans for the new funds, the company noted that the recently created cash account gives management increased freedom in strategic decision-making. This approach reflects a prudent and flexible capital management style where liquidity is prioritized. There are no immediate pressures to invest in volatile or speculative assets.
