Jason Calacanis Slams Meme Coins as Giant Scam

Alex Dovbnya 27.09.2026

A Persistent Bitcoin Skeptic

Taking to social media, Calacanis stated that he has never had any connection to meme coins and never will. This reinforces his cautious stance toward the viral digital assets. Furthermore, he issued a direct warning to retail investors who might fall for market hype. He promised never to initiate private contact or offer trading instructions.

For the overly trusting audience, he stressed that he would never ask anyone to buy, sell, or trade assets via direct messages or social platforms.

Despite being a known admirer of Bitcoin, the world's largest digital asset, Calacanis frequently adopts a deeply skeptical tone. On September 18, he dismissed a Bitcoin price recovery as a mere „dead cat bounce.”He also questioned the cryptocurrency's relevance seventeen years after its official launch.

Calacanis argued that Bitcoin remains poorly suited for everyday transactions and smart contracts. He added that the user experience is still far too intimidating for the general public. Additionally, he claimed that the cryptocurrency no longer commands public attention with the same intensity as before.

These comments followed an even gloomier post published on August 22. At the time, Calacanis claimed that a previous market movement was only temporary and predicted that Bitcoin would not reach a new all-time high anytime soon.

„In my opinion, there are more valuable assets for individuals and institutions to hold,”he wrote.

Long-Running Meme Coin Criticism

Even so, this fundamental critique did not stop him from reacting enthusiastically to short-term market shifts. Later that same day, after a sudden price jump, he posted a simple message saying „BITCOIN!”This revealed a certain contradiction between his long-term thesis and his immediate reactions to market volatility.

Another recurring theme in his commentary is the playful teasing directed at Michael Saylor. As the co-founder of Strategy and one of the most vocal corporate advocates for Bitcoin, Saylor often faces public jokes from Calacanis. During price drops in August, Calacanis joked with his followers, asking them to check on Saylor due to his massive asset exposure.

His long-standing crusade against meme coins ultimately boils down to a fundamental rule of risk management. Calacanis strongly urged people to avoid purchasing meme coins or early-stage startup investments unless they are fully prepared to lose every single penny.

Do not buy meme coins and do not invest in startups unless you can afford to lose 100% of the money you allocate,he wrote.

This guidance serves as a strict warning for speculative traders. While his recent label of a giant scamsounds absolute, his broader commentary often reflects a nuanced and complex view of the entire crypto landscape.

This firm stance arrives as other prominent industry voices, such as Brandt, also target the cultural frenzy surrounding XRP. Meanwhile, Dogecoin remains in the spotlight as Elon Musk continues his frequent involvement in the crypto ecosystem. These trends unfold alongside positive price analyses for Solana, Zcash, Chainlink, and Cardano.
