Binance Hack May Accelerate DEX Growth as Standard Chartered Eyes Uniswap Surge

Data from CoinGecko highlights a steady gain

Standard Chartered believes the recent cyberattack risking $6.3 billion in crypto at Binance will accelerate user migration to decentralized platforms. Geoffrey Kendrick, global head of digital assets research at the bank, anticipates a significant volume surge for DEXs once initial market turmoil subsides.

Kendrick reiterated his $100 price target for Uniswap’s UNI token by 2030. However, he noted the Binance breach strengthens the case for an even higher long-term valuation. He described the security breach as another reason why current forecasts might actually be too conservative.

Data from CoinGecko highlights a steady gain in market share for decentralized platforms. In the second quarter of 2026, the volume ratio between top ten DEXs and centralized exchanges hit 23.5%. This represents a 2.1 percentage point increase from the previous quarter. Despite lower overall market activity, DEXs successfully captured market share from centralized rivals.

Uniswap maintained its dominant position as the largest decentralized exchange by trading volume. It secured a 41.2% market share among the top ten tracked DEXs, generating $168.5 billion in volume. This marked a 21.4% quarter-over-quarter decline. PancakeSwap followed in second place with $80.7 billion.

Market reaction following the hack was mixed

Binance remained the largest centralized exchange with a 38.7% share in the second quarter. Its total volume reached $1.95 trillion, reflecting a 27.9% drop from the first quarter.

Market reaction following the hack was mixed. Uniswap's UNI token initially dropped over 10%. Conversely, Hyperliquid's HYPE token jumped roughly 15%. This rally followed ICE's announcement to develop a regulated US perpetual derivatives market alongside Trade.xyz.

Kendrick warned that crypto prices might drop further before fully stabilizing. Investors should closely monitor the release of frozen assets and further security details regarding the Binance breach. The incident forced Binance to suspend all deposits and withdrawals during security checks.

Standard Chartered previously forecasted that total value locked in decentralized finance could reach $2.7 trillion by 2030. Under this scenario, Uniswap could become a major trading hub for tokenized assets. However, the bank emphasized this remains a long-term projection rather than an instant windfall.
